Fire Safety

This week, the Scouts learnt about fire safety.

We covered the causes of fire and fire prevention; extinguisher types and how and when to use them; and evacuation.

We also practised putting out “pan fires”. Some were more successful than others, but hopefully everyone learnt from others’ mistakes.

The Scouts pictured are standing next to a portable barbecue fire pit containing burning shredded paper. They’re holding a dripping wet towel and are about to place over the fire pit to put the fire out. They didn’t quite cover all of the fire first time (lesson number one) and took two more tries to put the fire out. They then knocked the pit over in their exuberance (lesson number two).
