Egg drop challenge

Last night the Scouts tried their hands at light engineering: an egg-drop challenge; and some marshmallow and spaghetti towers. The results were messy, sticky but quite impressive.

Plastic straws poking out of the bottom of an open-topped cardboard container seemed like such a great idea…
Plastic straws used to make an almost perfect tetrahedron, with an egg cup suspended on rubber bands. What could possibly go wrong?
This combination of plastic bag parachute and latex glove protective udders looked horrible but worked a treat.
An incredible network lattice of spaghetti and marshmallows. Easily the tallest, most complex and beautiful structure in the room.
