AGM 6 May 2022

Annual General Meeting

  • Friday 6th May 2022, 6:00pm – 7:00pm
  • Venue: Ancells Farm Community Centre

In attendance:

  • Kate Philpot (Group Chair), Pete Robertson (AGSL), Dan Taylor (Group Treasurer),
    Helen Howell (Group Secretary), Amy Taylor (BSL), Louise Willis (BSL), Malcolm Buckley (SL), Beverley Waine (CSL), Stuart Auterlonie (ASL), David Millen (Odiham District Commissioner).
  • Scouting, community and parent attendees included; Jannette McElarney, George Woods and 17 scouting group families.

Agenda

  1. Welcome and opening remarks by the Chair. Kate welcomed all present and thanked everyone for attending and opened the meeting.
  2. Minutes of the last AGM. Noted as being read by Helen Howell (Group Secretary).
  3. A Presentation of Alder Beavers. Each Beaver spoke about something they had enjoyed doing in the group and earned a “speaking up” badge, part of the You Shape Award.
  4. Appointment of the Chair. This is currently Kate Philpot and she checked if anyone else would like the role. This role is the remit of the GSL to appoint, Kate Philpot was duly reappointed as Chair of the Executive Committee by Malcolm Buckley.
  5. Election of officers. Helen Howell was re-elected as Secretary, (proposed by Beverley Waine (CSL), seconded by Malcolm Buckley (SL). Dan Taylor was re-elected as Treasurer, (proposed by Beverley Waine (CSL), seconded by Malcolm Buckley (SL).
  6. Charity Trustee declarations of intent. There were no additional declarations to become trustees of the group.
  7. Entertainment by Tiger Cubs. There was a video shown of the activities the cubs have been involved in over the past year.
  8. Presentation of accounts, for year ending 31st December 2021. Dan Taylor presented the Financial Statements for the year ended 31 December 2021. The accounts have been externally audited (by Joanna Dewhirst) and Dan gave thanks to Jo for that. The financial statements had been approved, audited and produced in the format required by The Scout Association. No questions were raised.
  9. Presentation by Friday Scouts. The scouts talked about what they have enjoyed most about being in Scouts over the past year and what activities are coming up including; life skills, camp, hiking and cycling.
  10. Presentation by Thursday Scouts. Pete gave a slideshow about the activities that have taken place over the past year including pumpkin carving with power tools, camp, cooking, floating compasses and bike riding.
  11. GSL to celebrate achievements. Pete recognised the fact that we now have 3 new leaders in the group since the last AGM; Amy, Louise and Stuart and also a new badge secretary. Four children received their Bronze Award, 2 received their Silver and 1 received the Gold Award. There were a number of community engagement activities during the year including the poppy appeal (we raised £119); the Remembrance parade; and the Ancells Farm table tennis tournament.
  12. Address by the District Commissioner. David Millen thanked everyone involved in the group for all of their hard work and continued support and dedication throughout the past challenging year. He also raised the fact that we continue to look for adults to become leaders / regular helpers so that the group can grow and potentially open a new Beaver section. David presented Pete with his Wood badge and Kate with her 15 years service certificate. In addition, he spoke about the forthcoming jubilee celebrations in early June and also spoke of the District Recognition Events that are held to celebrate scouting achievements.

Meeting closed at 6:45pm with thanks to all for coming, to the MOD for use of their land and to the parents of the children in the group.
