It was great to see so many faces at our AGM this year – we had to get extra chairs out! Thank you so much to everyone who came along.
AGM highlights:
- We enjoyed brilliant songs, sketches, reviews and presentations by the Beavers, Cubs and Scouts, and Expedition Scouts – well done everyone!
- Our treasurer gave us a great explanation of why subs have had to increase.
- Bill Tyack of the Royal British Legion thanked 6th Fleet for all their support since 2011 with the poppy appeal and confirmed that the group had raised over £7000.
- Helen served up some extremely popular hot dogs – we only had a few left over!

Details:
- Welcome and opening remarks by the Chair. Kate welcomed all present and thanked everyone for attending and opened the meeting.
- Minutes of the last AGM. Noted as being read by Helen Howell (Group Secretary).
- A presentation by Beavers. “On my first day of Beavers” song and actions followed by the investiture of Steve Jay as Beaver Scout Leader “Bear”.
- Appointment of the Chair. This is currently Kate Philpot and she checked if anyone else would like the role. This role is the remit of the GSL to appoint, Kate Philpot was duly reappointed as Chair of the Executive Committee by Malcolm Buckley and Neil Oldrieve.
- Election of officers. Secretary and Treasurer positions – duly reappointed by Tegwen Gabb and Stuart Auchterlonie
- Charity Trustee declarations of intent. Malcolm Buckley agreed to become a Trustee.
- Entertainment by Cubs. Campfire skits “Need a Wee!” and “There ain’t no flies on me!”
- Presentation of accounts, for year ending 31st December 2022. Dan Taylor presented the Financial Statements for the year ended 31 December 2022. The accounts have been externally audited (by Joanna Dewhirst) and Dan gave thanks to Jo for that (see attached document). The financial statements had been approved, audited and produced in the format required by The Scout Association. No questions were raised. Dan explained the increase in subs by £5 per unit per term in order to maintain the programme.
- Presentation by Thursday Scouts. Stuart presented an overview of activities during the year including paddleboarding, bush tucker trials, visit to RAF Odiham and various adventures including fire-hole cooking and slot-car racing. See
- Presentation by Friday Scouts. The 4 senior scouts who recently completed their expedition presented it to the group with supporting photos. The remaining troop then read a poem that won the “Campers Got Talent” completion from the camp weekend. Malcolm also highlighted that Andrew and Tara achieved their gold awards this year. - GSL to celebrate achievements. Pete gave an overview of 6th Fleet in the community: pavilion painting on Ancells field, attending the platinum jubilee and coronation parades and poppy selling for the Royal British Legion. He also spoke about the closure of Thursday Scouts and the opening of a new Explorer unit.
- DC presentations: Trevor Smith (DDC) Presented Malcolm with his Wood Badge certificate, and presented Pete with a 10 year service award. He also thanked all the leaders, exec committee and parents.

- Meeting closed at 7pm with thanks to: all for coming; the MOD for use of their land; and to the parents of the children in the group.
